But you get my point that people, shooter or hunter, from the 21st century aren't going to know all the well known Vietnam soldiers and marines who died after that war, when they were 2-10 years old.

A few years ago my dad and I were hunting coyotes we spotted a few out at about two-hundred fifty yards so we started lobbing bullets hoping to hit our target. After a few shots the coyotes looked up at us and then continued on with what they were doing, making us feel very stupid. We never hit them but that was the day we started looking into shooting long range, and making sure that the next time we had such a shot we would know EXACTLY how to hit our target.

what's readily apparent is neither of you learned anything about the ethics or sportsmanship of hunting. lobbing bullets to hit your target? sorry but i'm going to call it for what i see it as, stupid, reckless and irresponsible. IMO, neither of you need to be hunting as you haven't learned the ethics of it. you two give responsible hunters a bad name.

I've known about Simo Häyhä. He passed away in 2002 at age 96. He was credited w/ 505 confirmed kills in less then 100 days. 1939-1940 was the total length of the winter war.
German snipers Josef Allerberger, and his accomplice, Matthäus Hetzenauer. racked up 602 confirmed kills on the eastern front.
Lyudmila Pavlichenko, one of the many Soviet women snipers had 302 confirmed kills.
Ivan Sidorenko, a male soviet sniper had 542 confirmed kills.
U.S. snipers in Veitnam such as Carlos Hathcock (USMC) w/ 93 confirmed kills, Chuck Mawhinney(USMC) w/ 103 confirmed kills, and Adelbert Waldron (US Army) w/ 109 confirmed.

Just got this done... My father-in-law did all the work, and it looks great! I put a picatinny rail on the bottom for the bipod, and a good sling. I also bought more rails to put on the sides should I decide to attach any other long rang accessories... Btw, this is a Remington 770 (.308).

Also, to the person who started this thread... MIND THE AMMO COST!!!! It really doesn't matter what gun or caliber of gun you buy if you can't afford to shoot it. I live in OK, and I just found the .308 ammo... a month after I bought the gun. I knew it would be $20+/ 20 rnds, but the way people are being these days... It's crazy. I've found lots of 300, .243, and 7mm but the .308 is hard to find. Just a thought. Happy hunting... For ammo...

the Remington M770 is not considered to be any sort of long range target rifle, unless your idea of long range is under 300 yards.

i have owned one and shot many others in various calibers. they are about as good as Minute Of Deer at best.

the stock is flimsy as hell, heavy gritty trigger, bolts binds and sometimes fails to feed shells smoothly and the barrel is press-fitted into the reciever. not any aftermarket support. they were designed a cheap entry level hunting rifle, hence the cheap price when bought.

I suppose you missed the part about the rails I'm adding/added and the fact that its the .308... Sorry you had ****ty luck with your firearm, but it's ability is only as good as the trigger man's. I never said anything about having the longest shooting, most expensive gun. If you want to get on here and be a douche, the only thing i have to say to you is...happy hunting.
