Default long range nub

Hey guys been a while since I've posted,
Just bought myself a bolt gun, a savage fcp-sr. I guess I'm just looking for general pointers, is the included rail any good? I was leaning towards a vortex 6.5-20x 50 for glass, anyone have any experience with it? Reticle options has me a bit bamboozled aswell I was thinking of going mill dot, does the bdc have any advantages over it? Thanks guys

Stay away from the BDC reticles. My brother has the Vortex Viper PST EBR-1 Reticle (MRAD) in 6-24X50 and it works extremely well for him.

These scopes can be had for new for less then $950.00. My brother paid $849.00 for his January this year from a local gun shop.

The rail is good, but, depending on the caliber of the rifle, you may want to change it out to a +20 moa rail for extreme long distance.

If your going to go to much over 600 to 700 yards with a .308 Win., a +20 moa rail is a good idea. The +20 moa. rail cants the scope downward toward the muzzle. You may find that the Picatinny rail that you have now is one with a +20 moa cant.

Then your good to go. If you don't reload your own try using Federal Match King ammunition loaded with 175 SMK bullets. Should be a good start.

i had one of the very first 10 fcp-sr out of the factory. mine was put together by a goon. the barrel nut was torqued so hard it was constricting the barrel giving extremely poor performance, the firing pin was bent and it had trouble igniting primers, the scope rail was barely attached.

after several back and forths with savage i never got anything but i wasnt pulling the trigger correctly... piss poor customer service. i consider savage one of the worst companies for after the sale service. your pretty much on your own with them.

the ONLY reason i like savage rifles is im able to do everything myself.

after i remounted and correctly headspaced the barrel and replaced the barrel nut after having to cut the original off remounting the rail torquing it all down correctly and replacing the bolt its a .5 moa gun at 300 yards. fantastic shooter. it went from a 100yd 6+" shooter with sierra 168 mkbthp to a 100yd .5" gun

my wife now has it after she fell in love with it. its got a nightforce 3.5-15 nxs ffp with moa reticle and moa knobs. this gun loves sierra matchking 168grain bthp

I've seen where Guys were breaking the distance barriers and shooting over 1 mile with a 338 Laupa. Yes, you read that correct. Over 1 mile. The Bullet was dropping somewhere around 130 feet. The Shooter was shooting from a Mountain Ridge across into the next Valley. It was amazing. The Target was a Steel Plate that was like 4x4 feet and hanging on a Chain for the Gong effect. Now, if you're going for something like this, forget about what MOA Rail you might have, as it won't help you anyway at these distances.
What you will need is a good Bipod and some (very) good Glass. I would also suggest Burris Signature Zee Rings with different Inserts to help with good Scope adjustments, without going crazy with Ring alignment, and hitting those Targets at the distances you want. Also nice Rifle.
