The .308 is a good hunting cartridge. IME, shooting at living animals, you should limit your shots to 300 yards. I hate if when people try to play sniper and wound animals at 500 yards.

If you really want to shoot 1000 yards, then I'd suggest an Accuracy International .338 LaPua magnum and a 10x Schmidt & Binder scope
