no harm or foul. just wanted some clarification.
Fair enough and if I were to go hunting I would be going alone so I would have to get a closer shot so I don't waste time and daylight as you said, wound the animal and you'll be tracking into the night.

As far as optics go, live by the saying clarity over magnification. Some of the longest shots made with a 308 was done with a 10x fixed Leupold. I run vortex optics on all my rifles because the glass is super clear, features are awesome, wont put a dent in your wallet, and your can't beat their warranty. Here's some pics of my rifle and a few hundred yard groups with handloads
Cool But the bolt is on the wrong side!!!

That group does not indicate a super accurate long range shot. In order to provide a 5 shot 2 minutes of angle at 800 yards you need a skill level and load that produces a .03" minute of an angle at 91 meters. You may without allowing your self an edge get by with a .05"minute of an angle at 100 yds or 91 meters.
You should never ever shoot at big game animals with an 18" group at your intended POI.

That target was still sighting it in. To be honest we ran out of shells to fine tune it. Two boxes and 220 dollars worth of ammo was all we could shoot that day. LOL Expensive hobby shooting one of those things. Was also a new gun and getting used to the 2# trigger. Need to take pics of the next shoot. We don't shoot animals that far anyway. We had many more guns to shoot that day and rushed it some as we had guests that came to shoot guns.

That's just a few of the guns we have to shoot. Love shooting guns almost as much as deer hunting.
