For 1500 yards, the Royal Marine Commando Snipers use the A.I .338 LaPua. topped with a 10X X 50MM, S&B scope and LaPua match ammo.

And they hit with every shot.

Spent a good bit of time reading his posts and have yet to been steered wrong.

I've not gotten out to 1000 yet but with the 338 Lapua I've stepped it out to 800 yards with the 250 gr Berger. It's taken a lot of shoulder kicks to get there but good thus far

Do a deeper search pal, wiki answers is not the place to search for that. Go to boone an crockett it list the most popular calibers used for hunting, the 30/06 is number uno or one, NOT THE 308, thats based off guns sold an ammo sales as well as entrys on trophy animals. Sorry to burst your bubble but ill stick to what I said. Also note the TOP SELLING CALIBERS NOW ARE THE . 300 CLASS CALIBERS. BASED ON DAME DATA.

His wiki search is not quite shall we say cuts the mustard. There are sights that have True Facts, on proven data.

So you are basing YOUR conclusion on ONE source? This source allegedly researches several others including gun sales, ammo sales and reported caliber used on trophy animals? Maybe.

Copping an attitude about other peoples opinion is not really good form. Tone it down.

Actually the british sniper At 1,043ft altd, 2,475 m (2,706 yd) Corporal of Horse (CoH) Craig Harrison, in Afghanistan using a L115A3 Long Rang Rifle .338 Lapua magnum LockBase B408 in November 2009 had to take 9 shots just to range the kill before he could get it. On the other hand the Canadian sniper At 9,000ft altd, 2,430 m (2,657 yd). Cpl.Rob Furlong 3PPCLI taken in the Shah-i-Kot Valley during Operation Anaconda using a McMillan Tac-50 (C15) Long Range Sniper Weapon (LSRW) Hornady A-Max .50 (.50BMG) in March 2002 only needed two shots to range, at a much higher altd and two cross winds, in order to get the kills.

Overall the .338 lapua isn't always the best.
