Light pitting removal

Hi all,

What is the neat method of removing pitting from a firearm? I have a Marlin 336w 30/30 with light pitting. It looks like it will be a fairly easy fix but I have never done it before. Thanks!

Stainless steel pot scrubber. And then wipe clean with oil and paper towl
