You must be using brass from Hornady's lever evolution factory 265 gr FTX cartridge which uses a shorter length case, Hornady did this because of the longer ogive of that particular bullet, this reduces the case capacity which effects the charge weights. Since the cases are shorter I believe that it is designed for the lever evolution bullets only. The standard brass length of a .444 is 2.225" which you can purchase separately.
