I have two lever actions, a Marlin Model 336C in .30-30 (of course). The Marlin was the first firearm I purchsed after I graduated from college (about 100 years ago) and could afford to start buying guns. The second is a .22LR Winchester Model 9422, technically this one is my son's rifle, I bought it for him the day after he was born (28 years ago).

I will eventually also be buying an Uberti 1873 replica like Txhillbilly has in 45 Long Colt.

Alright, now to refine the search:
I'm looking at some shorter rifles.
I like the Marlin Guide Gun in .45-70: MARLIN LINK
Also the Rossi 16"-ers in 45 Long Colt: ROSSI LINK

I shot a .45-70 a while ago and it seemed to kick my skinny butt, but I've read that lighter loads are not as harsh.
Some input on these calibers would be awesome! Maybe even a Rossi .357?
Thanks again everyone, you guys are awesome.

The granddaddy of all assault rifles,I have been wanting another lever action for about 25 years. I really would like a savage model 99 in 300 savage or a 308. I sold my only lever in the early 80s it was a Marlin in 44 mag,I bought at Kmart for 110 dollars.

A real man's hand-cannon!

Get her dirty, then clean her so she starts to respect you. When her trust is complete, she will serve you well for a lifetime!

Since my home internet is down til tuesday, no pics, but....

I currently have the finest 22 lever gun ever made, a Marlin 39A. Its a 1978. My birthyear.

I also have a 1964 Marlin 336 in 35 Remington, and a 1984 Marlin 336 in .30-30 Winchester.

I'm pretty fond of all lever guns, but I feel Marlins are better than the rest.

I recently sold a Marlin 30A in 30-30. And I used to have years ago, a Winchester 1894 in 44 Rem Mag.

Lever action rifles are just more fun to shoot.

I could make a list of a bunch of guns i have, or "have", or wish I had. Why would one feel compelled to provide that infornation freely? Do you feel the need to show off? Is it some immature game of oneupsmanship?

Why do you feel it necessary to list your guns?

Wow! I'd love to find a Marlin for $110, lol.

You guys have any thoughts on Rossi lever actions? I'm looking at the 16" 44 mag. The price seems very right (~$400) for a starter. Rossi @ Bud's

Have two both Henry's, a 22 which i gave my youngest son and 22 mag love em both. Some thing about a lever will bring out the kid in you even if ya are or weren't a cowboy . The H001 will shoot any ammo and you can even mix 22 lr and 22 shorts and it will still feed and fire. Load on Sunday and shoot all week long !!!

Your problem right now is going to be ammo. .44 Mag is no where to be found around here. Neither is .45 colt. .357 and .44-40 is easily found. W/ a .357 you can also shoot .38 special.

Cane: Yes it is an Uberti replica of the Walker-Colt. It IS a blast (literally) to shoot. I usually load 50 grains of FFFg (60 is the maximum). As it is a heavy pistol, it is definately a two handed grip for any accuracy, and the recoil is not at all bad. Much less punishing than my .44 or .357 magnums. It shoots very well at 15 yards, I need to move to the 25 yard range at some point, then to the 50.

I always get a lot of positive attention at the range when I shoot it, it does make a BIG BOOM and lots of smoke!

I changed my Avatar when I realized what JD's choice was, but, I'll bring the Walker back at some point.
