i have inhearited a bunch of rifles from my uncle one of them is this sears 243 rifle. which i believe is a rebaged winchester modle 70
i never delt with this caliper what is the ideal use for this rifle

also whats this worth

im planing on adding a scope just because

Its a great all around medium game rifle. Not ideal for large deer, but many have fern taken with it.

I don't know the value. So here is a guess. $300 - $350

Yeah, that looks like a Model 70 alright. From what I can see it looks to be post 64. I would guess that it is worth around $400. The .243 is NO marginal cartridge and is good for all varmints as well as deer and black bear. Generally speaking, 80 grain bullets on down for varmints and 85 and up (with 90 to 100 grain being ideal) for deer.

i saw that the winchester 70 ser#700,000 and higher are post 1964 but the ser# on this unit is 18557 so i not shore cant ask my uncile i also got 2 1903 one springfield arms 900,000 1918 and a reminiton 1937 and a 1917 eddistone a amarican made enfield chambered in 30-06 bigest problem is they where in a attic for 50 pluse years and look it im going to haft do the unthinkabail and re finsh and re blue them they are is such piss poor shape but after sokeing in oil for a week i can cycle the bolts know so theirs hope for them yet the 243 was in a gun case so it just needed to be whiped down and good as new

Towboat, I don't know how large your deer get down there, but from what I've heard the deer up north of the border with me and usually on the larger side. That being said, just about ever one here uses a .243 for their deer rifle as its a good all rounder for varmint to deer. It's also the smallest legal caliber we can use here.
