Looks like a Modelo 1935 Argentine Mauser 98 made in Belgium and shipped to Argentina in 1935-1936. Obviously, it was sporterized with a new stock. I would have to look at the markings to confirm it was Argentine. Some of the 1935 Modelos were made for Peru and Chile, possibly other South American countries. Many gunsmiths prefer this Mauser action to the ones produced in Germany.

Im pretty sure minionsram was right on the country of manufacture. All of the mausers that i have seen that came from Peru,Chile, and Argentina where marked on the action. The design was by Robert Lowe of Berlin. As far as i know they all left the factories as a 7 or 8mm mauser. Lots of sporterizing not a bad looking rifle though. It should have more sentimental value than money value. The only ones worth a decent amount are factory originals or professionaly restored. I hope that helped a little.

smithy, Bobby passed away. he was a good man.
