I've always gone with, "If it's value is less than $3000, SHOOT IT!!"

Welcome aboard. That Marlin is a nice rifle. I know quite a few PA deer hunters who use them. I have one much newer than that one that I just plink with . Nice gun. I would have a smith at a reputable gun store inspect it, and then have a ball with it.In Florida the ammo is about $0.80 to $1.00 a round for anything but the high performance hunting rounds. They are a tad more.

Good luck with it. I think he will enjoy it.

Welcome and thank you for providing education for your son. His school may offer 4H as a school club and may have shooting sports. Most states have 4H its up to the school to have a sponsor. There is usually an open club. Our local club provides training in all shooting sports, BB gun, pellet gun, 22 rifle, archery, etc. our local club provides guns and ammo. I have been an instructor for a long time. We typically have about 200-300 kids
