Issues you will encounter: M1 Garand, M2 ball is not the same as 150gr .30-06 hunting ammo. If you use 150gr hunting ammo you will bend the operating rod.

Most 7.62x51 (147..151gr) battle rifles will not use commercail .308 without hammering the action. Again, there is a difference between military and commercail.

Com-bloc rifles on the other hand don't suffer from these issues. You can shoot commercail 150gr 7.62x54r out of a PSL without a hiccup.

Is that an FR8 Mannlicher or some such?
eta: I see now the sights are much different than an FR8.

Love the woodwork on it.

Not sure- Dont know much about it?
The sites are a Weaver add on, The Mannlicher portion of the stock is original but the previous owner did a real nice job of cutting the pistolgrip off anouther stock & adding it to this- you have to really look to see the cuts. Recoil pad addition cud have been better I've added a bent bolt from Numrich & its now at a local gunsmiths gettin a "checkup"-

Here is an FR8 for comparison - sans bayonet.
Usually found chambered in 7.62 NATO.

Let us know how the checkup goes and if you discover some more info on the rifle.

The Spanish "custom" was a standard GEW 98 or 1916 model.

I was hoping to be able to use Prvi Partizan 150gr soft point. That would be the same ammo I'd use for hunting and battle/defense. You can't tell me that I can only use military ball ammo, can you?

I don't care about the military's limit to FMJ. I'm hoping someone will confirm that, as long as I stick to 150gr and don't buy something that sounds like super-power speed, then I should be fine.

OK Chris, Minimum Velocity for M2 ball is 2739fps, max is not listed.
Looking at PSI and cross referencing info, Prvi should be fine. Velocity listed by Prvi is 2800 fps w/ under 60,000psi pressure.

That ^^^ is music to my ears. I guess with a Garand, one just has to be a little careful. I tend to be someone who picks a round and sticks with it if it fills my needs, as opposed to buying all sorts of random ammo from many different sales and such.

If the Prvi works, then I'm happy...plus, it's a good price for a round that's a little more expensive than .308.

Remington 710. Flame away.

It was my first centerfire rifle I purchased years ago. Sure, the bolt was a little loose, but if you run it with fingertips, it moves fine.

Detachable mag, spares are cheap. I took deer from 40 to 350 yards with it.

Used guns are $200-250.

I'd say that fits your criteria.

Why do you feel it necessary to list your guns?

Just get one of those adjustable gas nuts for the Garand and you wont have to shoot just ammo loaded to M2 spec..
