I'm looking for the "general purpose rifle"...what do you suggest me?
Ok, is pretty obvious that can't get all with a single rifle(Some rifles are more powerfull, some rifles are more accurate, some rifles are more reliable...etc).
But I was wondering...what rifle can get closer to the definition of "General purpose rifle"(which means that you can use it in a combat situation, for hunting, etc)?

I want to buy a new rifle that:
-Is battle proven(Can be be used in a real combat situation) and effective on the field
-can be used as a hunting rifle and a survival rifle.
-can be used in a CQC environment and can be accurate till 400-600m(With optics) and 150-350m with iron sights.

My first choice was:
1)DSA FAL(I shot one last week....7, let me say it...I LOVE IT!!!The tactical upgrades are awesome and the rifle, despite its caliber, is pretty controllable even on full-auto(I usually don't use the full-auto mode, but it's a feature taht can be useful in some situation!!!
2)HK G3 A3-A classic.I love this rifle, some shooters say it is too bulky and heavy, but its weight is not a problem to me(I'm trained to carry extra weight)
3)Zastava M59/66A1. The accuracy of this weapon and its reliability are simply leggendary.I have shot it using iron sights and with optics:Believe or not, it was one of the prefered weapons of the serbian paramilitary and snipers-I know perfectly why!The only thing I would change form the original design, is to replace the default bolt (Free floating) with a spring loaded one.I would also replace the forniture with a tactical one(Foldable stock).Regarding the rifle feeding:If I would be able to preserve the reliability of the rifle, I would modify it to accept ak mag(Yeahm there are 10,20,30,60,75 an even 100 rnd mags for the ak...that's why I would do it)

Any suggestions?

Jagermeister 09-22-2013 05:58 PM seem to like the FAL the most. "I Love It." So, why bother asking us. Get what you want. We are going to give you endless other rifle recommendations, or opinions on the three you listed. Go buy the FAL and be happy. Please post pics and give us a range report.

I would agree to by what you love... but if indoors is part of your PoU then maybe the Zastava should be more closely considered due to lenght.

I shot a Steyr Fal for many years and "loved it", but as I got a little older the size and near 11 lb. weight was a bit much. Since you said you wanted something for hunting and survival, I would recommend a Scout type bolt rifle in .308. Would be good for 95% of any hunting situation, and unless you are facing hordes of attackers, would work for self defense as well. If you are set on a semi auto, and want to stick with .308/7.62 NATO, maybe a M1A Scout or Socom, or an AR-10. For hordes of attackers, a nice AR-15 in 5.56mm with optic would allow faster follow up shots and allow you to carry more ammo than the bigger caliber.

Get a Ruger Gunsite Scout or other scout rifle setup, or an AR10 and don't forget to leave some money for ammo and optics ;)

That would have to be a bolt action or single shot.

several of my choices would be

bcm ar15
mosin 91/30 pu sniper
wasr 10/63 ak47
marlin 1895 guide gun in 45-70

all are effective to 600-800 yards capable of mounting optics with irons. all can be used for defensive or game getting.

You cannot put an AR-10 (.308) upper on an AR-15

M-1A, the FAL you mentioned, an HK-91 or Ruger Gunsight scout
