Yeah well your title is misleading... It says semi-autos don't exist.

Which means the magazines don't exist.

Mosin nagant (any type) but I would prefer a good lever action. Shoots as fast as you can work the action and is accurate and with a 30-30 has a real nice punch.

I have one in 7-08 and my dad has it in 308. They are good guns but the action can't be taken down for cleaning unless you really know what you are doing. I always refer to it as the swiss watch action. I take mine to a gunsmith every couple of years to have it taken down and detail cleaned. Plus the magazines are very expensive.

I'm not tryin to talk you out of getting one, they are great rifles. One if the best whitetail guns out there IMO. I just don't think It would be very good in this hypothetical situation.

Not for me, but a good choice. OK The 1903 was a copy of the rifle the guys w/ the funny helmets used The '95 is a gem The 1895 made for the Csar had one!! Just an abusive rifle. Wanted one all my later life, bought a '81 Steel receiver in .308. It was nasty to shoot. It was a deversion for Midway... See above. You miss the point. The .50BMG round or .338 Lapua are great at distance. For even a hunter w/ an open sight rifle, an inexperianced shooter is overmatched. There is so much put on a cartridge without thought if the shooter can do anything with it. I'd take a M38 Swede or K98 Low Turret sniper. I have both. Open sight Swede, 200 yards, K98, I'm not saying. If you really want a great rifle, Soviet PU 91/30. Same as K98 it has the ability to use irons, but w/ a better sight picture. Got that also. Have a .308HB that is awesome, but no irons.
I'm a former squad designated marksmen and have engaged targets out to 800 meters give or take so I think I can handle it especially since I've shot both calibers with no issues. For close in fighting I'd probably use a lever gun but due to training and the large areas of flat nothing around but scrub brush I'm going with a distance gun such as the 338 lm so I have plenty of standoff against whomever might be coming at me
