Axe, Mosin snipers were hand picked for their shooting qualities at the factory and were made into snipers there. While I have put a soviet PU scope on my Mosin to see what I could get out of it at the range, it is only a run of the mill surplus rifle, never put aside because it was sniper quality. I am not sure that I believe they were the sniper rifles we are led to believe. Mausers were better sniper, in my opinion, but more sniper kills are attributed to the Mosine sniper because there were so massively higher numbers of them made. Uncle Joe won because he had more of everything including people. That's probably why Mosins only cost $130, $500 if you can find a real sniper, but buyer be ware

If a firearm is given mass produced features designed to improve it's utility, it becomes only a tool.

An older firearm that has been cherished and passed on to another, even if it is just to the next person to cherish it, to look at it and wonder about "who owned this before?" "What moved that person to take such good care of it?"

As in the case of the lever gun, it doesn't need add-on's. I have read a lot of replies over the years about how people have built their own AR's, and tricked them out with everything that some gun writer said was new. I will probably incur their wrath for saying so, but they put together a set of parts, like Lego's,and you can put what ever bell's and whistles you want, on them.

There was a response to a Thread I read by a young lady who spoke with pride about a black powder rifle her husband "made from scratch". I saw the pictures. That rifle, has more soul, worked into it, than any mass produced tool, or put together part set will ever have.

I' sorry, but even with my eyesight going, I can' begin to put a new scope on a treasure, just because I can
I agree!
The lever action isn't the only tacticool abomination I've seen. I've seen pics of an "entry tactical" mosin. It was short, had an adjustable stock, a pistol grip, and a foregrip. I've also seen a single shot .410 that had an AR style adjustable stock, a heat shield wrapped around the barrel (kinda Jerry rigged), ghost ring sights, and an AR pistol grip.

I can't understand the tacticool-ization of perfectly good firearms.

to many of the younger shooters, tactical is cool. it sells, so they capitalize on it. it makes the gun makers lots of money. that i do understand. i don't like it, but i do understand the concept.

I didn't see a Winchester in 45L.C. until the 1980's.

I blame call of duty.

Accessorize everything but the fricking rocket launchers.

If it doesn't hold at least 5 rounds and reloading takes longer than 1.5 seconds its not tactical. So let it be pretty.

oh, i agree. guns are always cool looking in video games. so that's what the younger generation wants. the cool looking guns!

they have no appreciation for the finely crafted gun that much pride and skill went into making.

Actually, here's pics of the guns I was talkin about. And a tactical shovel.
And for fun, I threw in a pic of a entry tactical knife.

lol. That knife is my favorite. Although it really needs a laser and light underneath.
