After a few threads trying to narrow down what rifle or shotgun I am wanting to purchase to fit my needs (hunting and target practice), I have decided.

The Marlin 336 is perfect in every way for what I am wanting. I have watched several videos on disassembly, hunting and target practice. I also have held this rifle so it fits like a glove IMO.

Is there anything else I should know?

30-30, I hadn't seen any other calibers when I was out looking.

The Marlin Model 336 in 30-30 is an excellent short range and brush deer rifle. It was the second Hi-Power rifle next to my first which was a Savage 340 222 Remington that I ever owned at the age of 14. I was working at a little gun shop called Don's Guns after school in the evening. My job was cleaning weapons that came in for repair. And noticed a Beautiful Marlin 336 30-30 on the shelf that was "calling my name"! Don sold it to me on the time payment plan total $125.00 and I worked off my debt! Anyway! With the newer soft tipped hunting rounds they have for them now they have increases their performance as a hunting rifle even beyond the older rounds. Due to the fact they can be fed from a magazine tube! It was a good choice! Enjoy!

Don't forget to try the Hornady Leverevolution ammo and tell me how they shoot,I hear they will do 200 yards like it's nothin.The ammo is cheap and the gun is easy to shoot,it's one of the calibers that give me no flinch at all so I am pretty good with it freehanded with great accuracy.

What's the price range for this rifle, I know it's $400 online at academy and goes on sale a lot for $360. A guy at work told me about when he was a teen bought his for $180. I want to get the best deal, honestly I would wish to find it for $300, but $350 is a bit more realistic.

If you can find one for around $350 new I would grab it. The price in my area is about $375 at Wal-Mart and a little higher at the gun store I shop at some times, but most local shops are simply pawn shops and they want more for a used 336 than Wal-Mart is asking for the new. Check your local stores, some might match an online price or you might be able to find one used for $300-350. It really just depends on your location.

I've got a friend who's old enough to have bought his first 30-30 for the new price of $65-75. I Know they were cheap, by today's standards, back in 1956.

I'm going to do some price hunting, probably end up getting the credit card from Academy and just paying it off then closing the card.

I'm going around town now and collecting prices for the Marlin 336. So far it's a little more than I expected, I am also trying to stay away from wal-mart because I do want to support local shops.
