And I am legitimately asking, I want to know if you think is a good idea.

Hang fire- An unexpected delay between the triggering of a firearm and the ignition of the propellant.

If, by doing it the way you suggested, you keep tapping the primer, it can, and usually will, go off......right when you least expect it...

If, along the line you encounter what you think may be a hang fire, keep the gun pointed in a safe direction, wait 30 seconds, carefully remove round from chamber and discard in a safe manner...It happens to ALL shooters, you must be aware of this and know what to do when it happens...

PLEASE be safe!!

Use the Numrich link C3 posted and get the tool kit, is your safety worth $8.70? I think it's a wise investment...

it is worth it, but I really don't have the money. I don't have any money at all, I'm only 16, I don't even have a job, I spent all my money on that rifle. Thanks though.

But would it work to use a spent shell and measure the dent in the primer? I would buy the tool, but I really have no money.

No, won't work. The dent in the primer is in no way indicative of the FP protrusion...

Go back to who/where you bought it from and see if they have the tool for it. It's supposed to come with the gun, it's very problematic when it's missing...obviously...

Okay. Thanks. I'll see what I can do.

If I do have to do it the way I suggested, I won't keep using the same round over and over again, maybe it will help prevent that? Either that or it will make more rounds unsafe.

You would need cleaning rod, cleaning patches, solvent( whether it's Hoppes 9 or Gun Scrubber it doesn't matter), rust protector and disassembly tools. You would also need something to hold the rifle in place, I use sandbags made for shooting.
