Hunting Rifle
 

I am in the market for a Deer hunting rifle.

I am going hunting next month for the first time and want to purchase a rifle to use.

Any help would be much appreciated. :)

What type of terrain? Longest shot? Have you shot centerfire rifles before?
Need a little more info to suggest a type/caliber.
Hard to go wrong with a Savage in .308 with a good scope.

Also hard to go wrong with Remington 700 30-06. Great Great gun. I like them much better than the newer Rem 710.

A agree that a Savage w/ a good scope is hard to beat. Please do yourself a favor and stay away from the 710. They are junk! Just ask any gun smith. Another option is the 1500 series by Howa. The Savage or Howa will cost much less than a 700 also. Both make package guns at a decent price. The scopes leave something to be desired, but you can change it out when you have the funds. A .308 will fit your needs well. There are lots of ammo choices.

Not kowing any specefics about where and what you are hunting I'd say a 30-06. Whether Savage or Remington is up for debate surely. I like my Rem. 700. This gun, in my opinion, is just about as versatile as it gets.

Yo doug, give us more specifics as to terrain, distances you'll be shooting, and your budget. Question is too broad to give a specific answer.
