if wanting to rebarrel then you would to need to change the bolt or at least the bolt face. plus with it being a short mag, your action length is going to be the same as the 243, 308, 7mm-08 ect., ect...
7mm WSM headcase diameter is .535 and OAL is 2.860
7mm-08 headcase diameter is .473 and OAL is 2.800
30-06 headcase diameter is .473 and OAL is 3.340
so if you rebarreled, in say 7mm-08 or 308, which the action length would work, you would need to either change the bolt from .535 to one that is .473 or have the bolt face changed if this is possible to do. but the action and magazine box wouldn't be long enough for a 30-06.
my suggestion, would be to invest the same money it would cost to rebarrel and buy a new bolt into reloading. buy a starter kit, the dies and stock up on a bunch of cases and even if the stores stopped carrying your ammo, because lack of popularity in that round, yoou could still reload for it.
