270 is good for 100lbs. but if you are going to hunt bigger game your gonna need a .308 or 30-06. 270 is good for here in California where deer is only about 100lbs maybe a little bigger.

What the hell are you talking about? 100lbs my ass. 270 will drop an elk with a 140 grain bullet all day long.

I was about to post a similar question but what if the price range is more of an 800-900 dollar range with a scope. Im not a savage fan sorry but I already know I'm getting a 30-06. So a rifle and a scope for 800-900 dollars. Sorry for hijacking this thread but I know people hate it when you post the exact same thing twice.

Ya thats BS, the .270 is a very well balanced round. It is great for alot of game, it can handle animals like elk, moose, or mule deer no problem.

ReminGton 700 all day long 270. If you want lighter recoil you will get a little better range out of the 30-06

Agree with you other than the 700. Hate em. Round bottom receiver, push feed action. Makes me sick. But to each their own. Winchester all day long!

i was kind of thinking the same thing! i have two cousins who elk hunt every year in Colorado, one uses a 270 and the other one uses a 7mm Mag. both come home with plenty of elk meat! proper bullets and shot placement, has taken just about every animal in North America.
