I'm just stumped here. On the Hunting calibers thread you were claiming that your .270 was awesome. It is the greatest caliber, but here you want to sell yours. The caliber thread was started on the 26th, on the 27th you do a complete 180 and want to sell it. What gives???

Alright, I'm glad I wasn't the one to say it. I've been reading both trying to figure out where he's at.

You asked about the .257 Weatherby Magnum. It is a very fine round, but good luck finding ammo for it and, when you do, it's very expensive, unless you can load your own.

Oh, and we used to live in Mansfield when it was nothing but ranches. My son went to high school there.
Rabbits squirrels turkey deer hogs coyotes
That's awesome. I hate it here. All it is is yuppyville

Ok fellas, listen here
I love my 270 and I love everything about the caliber. BUT, the only place that a 270 would be perfect for I go to only once a year which is my uncles couple thousand acre deer lease. Everywhere else I hunt, Which is only a couple hundred acres, it's just too much. The loudness and size is a little scary for surrounding animals and people. If I was to go deer hunting for a weekend in Oklahoma at mygrandparents and shot a deer with my 270 on the first day, I most likely would not see another one the entire time. I used to own a 243 and got rid of it. I regret that and hope to get one pretty soon. I recommend people get a 270 because I think it's an overall awesome round it just wasn't the best choice for me. I'm the type of person who only would want two rifles, preferably one. I want that round where I could hunt anything I wanted without going from rifle to rifle, switching calipers. I don't see the point when these people own a gun for every animal they hunt. I like to use my guns equally and not have one being used once a year. That's why I posted this was to see y'all's thoughts. For hunting, I want to use my 22 mag and ______. I'm not sure yet what's going to fill that blank. That's where I need your help. I know a lot about guns but don't have experience with every caliber so in that case, enlighten me on what you think would be a great all round (quieter) caliber that would fit the needs of my location

as much as like the 257 Weatherby Magnum when i owned one years ago, unless a person reloaded, the ammo was very expensive. i didn't reload when i owned mine.

my suggestion would be the 25-06. simply because ammo should be easier to find that 257 Weatherby ammo and much cheaper to boot. the 25-06 gives a little more range than a 243 and delivers a little more energy, and IMO a little more versatile than the 243.

The 25-06 was my first choice before the 270 but cabelas didn't have it in stock. What about loudness? I cat have it sounding like my 270. My 22 mag is absolutely perfect but it's kinda illegal to deer hunt with so I need a little more.

Have you thought about a good 30-30 or even a 357. Or 44 magnum lever gun? They ain't real loud.

Bring a friend along next time, who owns a .257 Weatherby.

After they have fired the Weatherby, nobody will think that your .270 is too loud.

- Problem solved!
