I know this is an old thread, but I am a new member, so my two cents is... 9.3 x 62. I have a husqvarna 98. bought with Moose and grizzly in mind. 286 grain factory ammo in nosler partitions, barnes etc is available, and in terms of recoil / power ratio it is pretty good.

I would like to have a rifle chambered in .338 Lapua. It is a very accurate cartridge and has plenty of power for stopping big creatures.

3006. That's plenty, because only brain hits can be counted upon to stop charges. get it in a reliable, accurat autorifle, tho, likke the sporting BAR. Eleanor Oconnor dropped a tusker with one rd of solid bronze 3006. Bell took many hundreds of elephants with less powerful rds, using brain hits. 6.5 and 7 x 57 mauser. With the advantage of today's bullets and an autoloader the 06 is plenty, and it's otherwise useful, especially in an autoloader. I aint tying up a bunch of money in something that I will almost never use and which won't reach more than 200 yds or so, like the 458 or the 416, or something that can't be fired faster than 1.5 seconds per shot, like any bolt action.

How about a .50 BMG, range and power...

Sorry just had to be a smart ass, been one of those weeks...
