All of these long guns are powerful enough to take down the largest game I think a lot of guys on here are talking about.

I went buffalo hunting on a reserve with my .338 Lapua and it dropped a bull like a sack of bolts. Didn't even flinch after he dropped. I've also used the .408 when I went Grizzly hunting in Montana. Grizzly was killing my friends cattle and sheep so he asked myself and a couple friends to stalk it and dispatch it. The .408 literally busted the bear's head into three pieces.

BEFORE anyone says that is inhumane, understand that I had went away to relieve myself. A friend saw the bear and shot it with my rifle ( I planned on a heart or lung shot so I could have it mounted on my wall).....

+1 on that. I think for most situations we can reasonably be expected to encounter the .44 mag and 30-06 is adequate for keeping us alive. Now, a charging grizzly situation might warrant further review.

Yeah, well, IF I go to Grizzly-ville, I'm bringing a couple of Magnum

toting friends with me...

.458 for hunting.

If you want something really big, try a .700 nitro express. (I did a quick google search and a box of 5 cost $400)
