Help choosing my next rifle.

I own:
Rem 870 Wingmaster 12g
Browning Citori o/u 12g
Marlin 30-30c
Savage axis .270

I am looking for one more hunting rifle to be a legacy rifle. Needs to be big game capable, but not a shoulder bruiser, not sure if my accuracy would be affected and I love to spend time on the range. Looking in the 800-1200$ price range.

I will usually be deer hunting, but want a gun that i wouldn't be concerned with a 300 yard elk shot. Also I prefer flat shooting rifles, but would be open to suggestions.

In that price range probably one of the nicest rifles is the Kimber M-84. If you shop around you can find some with very pretty wood. I've owned about 5 of them over the years and been very satisfied with all of them Actually my all time favorite is my Kimber 84M in 7mm-08 which I still have and will never part with.

This is a picture of their 84M. They also make a 84L in .270 and 30-06.

I posted a picture of mine in another thread on this forum.

CZ-550 synthetic in .308. The best hunting rifle I ever owned. I call mine the Reaper. It is bane to the Russian boar in my neck of the woods. Look closely, it says made in Czech Republic. You can push the trigger forward for a "hair trigger". The scope is a Meopta Meostar 4-12x56 with red dot. It is very clear even at night. I can take out a small fox at 50-100 meters at midnight, which I do often. The whole set up with rings and gunsmithing was 1750 euros as a bundle. Not bad. Life is good! Waidmannsheil!

Nice CZ!!! Meopta is great glass. I had a CZ in their Magnum length action in .458 WinMag that was a lot of fun to shoot.

FN Winchester 70 Featherweight, shoulder it one time and you will understand why :D Love that gun, not quite as tight shooting as my Tikka but I adore the CRF action, the top of the food chain ergonomics, and the wood work is superb. I found mine for well under your price range. Mine is a 308 and it is a long way from a shoulder bruiser, the rifle soaks up the recoil remarkably well and the 308 is very big game capable within 300 yards. They make it in some flatter shooting calibers too, I would like one in 270 WSM which is the flattest shooting caliber I have ever owned, and well below the 7mm Rem Mag in the recoil department.

From what I understand your 270 win. should work on Elk 300 hundred yards out.
If you're wanting more power I would look at the 7mm rem mag or 300 win. mag for those 300 yard Elk shots. I was looking for a 300 win. mag when I found a 7mm rem mag at the right price, nearly 25 years later I am still happy with the 7mm rem mag.
