So I shot one round through the mosin then cleaned it. This morning I found so.e rust in the barrel but some gun oil and a bore snake cleaned it right up. Is that normal? Will it stay clean or will it rust again soon?

If you had rust, then hygroscopic salts are still in the bore. You need to clean the oil out with alcohol and then clean the bore with hot water, then re-oil.
And I don't think you can actually clean a bore with that abominable bore snake. That thing is a field expedient, not a home cleaner.

So when I get home today pour hot water down the barrel? I don't have a rifle cleaning kit. Only shotgun. Any specific make you would recommend?
