I have a lot of family members that live in the area were Katrina hit. Several were flooded and lost everything. I don't recall anyone having to put a new well down. Septic tanks had to be replaced, not because of the flood, the state/county changed regulations making the old septic tanks obsolete.

For me. I'm most likely going to leave my well defended home base with well and food stocks because of fallout. Since a I'm about 100 miles from a large target. Aka dc

Not sure there will be anyplace to bug out to. My concern would be Yellowstone with pumice (ash) coming down cloging roads, taking out the power grid and cloging car engines and collapsing roofs and blocking doorways and any travel paths. Not sure how we could survive that large a disaster. Not to mention that any rain coming down would have a high sulfuric acid content.
