Well, yes and no. The production of the Mosin Nagant I believe was stopped in 1944 or somewhere near there. However there are modern accessories like synethetic stocks you can put on them. There are some unissued Mosin Nagants still around, and issued ones as well.

Yep you can do that. I buy my ammunition at local gunshops, gunshows, and at the site ammunitiontogo.com.

Sweet wow the mosins sound like a very good deal if j were going to buy one it would be a lower end one as cheap as I could get one like 70$ with a really bad stock and furniture piece and just buy a new stock and furniture piece in black you know how much those run

I believe the stocks run between $60-$70 without shipping.

I know you stated not .22, but I love my .223 bolt gun.

The next up from .22 would be...
Long action - .25-06
Short action - .243

If you want to go .30 caliber....
Long action - .30-06
Short action .308

There are several other cartridges out there. I prefer cartridges I can get almost anywhere, with several bullet choices, and at a reasonable price.

I have a Marlin XS7 in .308 and love it. Savage makes nice bolt guns too. For a few more dollars you can get a Remington 700.

You can't go wrong with a Mosin Nagant, in my opinion. The Mosin Nagant was my first rifle and firearm I ever purchased, and I enjoy to shoot it as much as anything else. Mine dates back to 1942 and was made is an Izzy. She might be old, but she performs like a champ, she's my prized possesion (next to the Arisaka my Grandfather gave me whom was a WWII Navy Seal), and she's a warhorse that's for sure.

I like my Arisaka much better than the Mosin.... I really dont like the bolt design of the Mosin, and prefer the Mauser-style actions.. Finding 7.7 Jap sucks, but now that I "roll my own" ammo, Its become my favorite bolt action... My Arisaka was only $200 with the "Mum" and Ive seen them for as little as $60 with out it.
