What county are you in? Public or private land? Are you using a guide? I'm looking to do one for me and my son soon. Not sure where to go now that I'm "citified".

Yea, think I would take the 9 too. Some of those hogs out there can get pretty big and the tusk will do a number on you. Not real sure how the .223 round is going to work or if its even legal.

Go "old school" on him w 30-30 and if you don't have one - great excuse to buy one ! .35 or Europe's favorite .366 - 286 gr is legendary w boar.

9.3's rule!!
Left, 165gr .308
Right, 286gr 9.3
Either will work, but the 9.3 is more fun. With a MV of 2100fps it has 2390fpe at 100 yards. Just a wrecking ball.

223 to the noggin will take out 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999% of the wild swine you encounter. For the rest, double tap.

Killed many a pig in my younger days, before the Internet, with 22 mag FMJ's.

Be ready for those pesky mo-scetters. Some DEET on clothing edges keeps them off your body. DO NOT put that stuff on your skin. Tie or tuck your pants to your leg or in your boots. Tick spray on cuffs works too. No bs . Water, lots of water near by. Have extra boots and socks. my get yours wet. If pigs get close try to have a tree near by. When they scatter they can try to hook you as the run by. Don't know what kind of hunt this is so, dogs?? Ride and spot then stalk, hard to cover the bases. What bullet brand and type are you using in the 223. 55gr mil spec. m855?? should work but ain't legal. Some win 64gr sp works with good behind the shoulder shots. 9mm fed hst 147gr +P if you have some. But not the best choice but on short notice??!! Most of all try to enjoy the day. Git some pig for the BBQ.
