just for the heck of it. Any of you have one? Any modifications possible? I pretty much just want another rifle and I'm getting this one for about 90 bucks so I said, "why not?"

You can get synthetic stocks, no gunsmith scope mounts, and quite a number of add-ons. Be sure to scrutinize the bore and crown extensively, avoid varnishd casings, clean the he11 out of it as soon as possible after shooting corrosive ammo.

They are pretty good rifles even though they only cost about 90 bucks. I got an M-44, which is the carbine version of the 91/30 and I love it. I've had mine about 3 or 4 years now and I've chosen to leave it completely original, I like the history behind these old guns. If you look around you should be able to find some pretty cheap ammo, I got 300 rounds for 40 bucks last year (it's cheap Bulgarian ammo but it goes bang, most of the time).

I love it when I shoot it at a friends house that has never heard one go off before and hear everyones surprise.

I turned one into a 410 for deer hunting. I put a .411 Douglas barrel, turned down bolt handle and after market stock on one. The logic behind reason for this was to get a long range gun for deer hunting in Ohio, a shotgun only state. I chambered it for the 2 1/2 in rounds and planed on loading brass cases. That is the same as the .405 Win. which was Teddy Rosevelts favorite round. Anyway, they will not let me use sloid brass cases and with the plastic cases I start blowing out the rims at abt 1,750 fps. with a 265 gr. bullet. Still better than a .44 mag. handgun, but far from what I wanted. If they would just let me use brass cases I could run up to 48,000 psi. and be in hog heaven.

i have the 91-30 and i like it. shoots pretty well and i can get 440 rounds of milsurp ammo for 100 bucks.

there is a lot of aftermarket stuff for them including scout or regular scope mountings, stocks, etc., and at 90 bucks and with ammo that cheap you can afford to buy two and keep one original and sporterize the heck out of the other one.

I have a m38(m44 without bayonet) and its a blast to shoot(3ft fireballs),cheap ammo, I love loud guns and good accuracy mine was about 150 but its in original stock and all matching numbers.

I lean towards the 91/30 myself. I like 'em stock.
4 on right. There are a few more floating around the house.
