Jeff_F - Talk about your tramp stamp, OMG

It's a pity about the situation at Marlin. I'm glad I got a decent
1894CSS .357 magnum before it was too late.

i think marlins quaility was going down hill before freedom at least in bolt action 22s. as other posters have said costs have had to be reduced at the labor end. part of the problem is the cosumer we all basically want the very best for the cheapest cost. manufactures answer to this... but if you look around nothing is made like 40 years ago including appliances in ones house. again see the reasons above.

it could have gone down with their 22 rifles, but i own two Marlin X7's, an XL7 in 25-06 and an XS7 in 7mm-08 that were made before the the buyout, and both are excellent in quality and accuracy. then i bought an XS7VH in 308 that made after they moved plant operations to the Remington's New York plant, and it too is excellent in quality and accuracy. i heard the biggest problems they were having was the lever action rifles. and am hearing that the problems are being worked out and are starting to get much better in fit and finish.

So I see the SS Marlin 60 at WallyWorld, with a scope, for 229$.

At first I think "yeah", then I think "wait a minute..."

i know what you mean. the WalMart in our town carries a few rifles and shotguns, but the selection is very slim. i noticed that within the last several months, they even have an AR in the case now. not even sure what brand it is.

personally i don't buy any guns from the chain stores, as i prefer the pawn shops and my LGS for buying firearms. limited selection of brands and calibers.
