Yes it is legal to fly with firearms.

I fly with a firearm often. I have never had a problem in fact the check in process is easier and it even saved me some $$. My luggage was overweight and the agent said "it's probably your firearm" and didn't charge me the overweight fee!

Just follow the rules and you're good to go. Also always check both the airlines as well as the airport's rules and regs regarding flying with a firearm.

Flown a lot with firearms. Flew once with 3 case with 4 rifles each. Took a little longer but I expected it so I allowed for more time. Had a ticket counter lady who was a looker start hitting on me when I popped the case and she seen my rifle. Her eyes lit up like it was a diamond ring. Though I had to turn her down as I was already married.
