First rifle recomendations.
Hello, I was just wondering what some of your recommendations would be for a first rifle?
|
For what type of shooting?
.22s are great for getting the fundamentals of shooting down at low ammo cost. |
Yep, a .22LR would be a great way to start.
|
Any .22 from Marlin or Ruger, Ruger would be my suggestion but Marlin is a bit cheaper.

Marlin 60, Ruger 10/22 or any of another number of .22's. Everyone should own a .22 rifle of some kind. 10/22's are great because there is a ton of aftermarket stuff for them, you can have a lot of fun building them up and modding them. Marlins are just super common and cheap (to buy not, cheaply made). Since it is your first rifle, you will and should shoot it...A LOT. .22's are as close to free to shoot as you can get. Here is a story, I have a friend who thinks he is somewhat of a badass and says that he would not own a .22 and thought I was crazy for spending $400+ on a Single Ten. Well guess what, I out shoot him all the time....with his own firearms. Why? For one I grew up with guns and have been shooting since I was 7 but more important, I bet for every one round he shoots, I shoot ten, meaning I practice 10 times more than him. He has some firearms like an AR15, a HK 9mm, a Kimber, but no .22 an it costs him 10 times more to shoot. Get a .22 and try to wear it out.

Mostly just target shooting, plinking, etc. I've been told by a few others that a Henry Repeater is a fantastic first gun. It shoots .22 LR, long or short. Any thoughts?

i too will suggest a 22 rimfire rifle. many different action types, and many different price levels. a 22 is a good place to learn the basics and fundamentals of shooting and it's a cheap way to practice them. and another point, they are just plain fun too. first you need to decide what your budget is for the rifle and then start looking.

I have a few friends with Henrys. They are nice, and fun. Cost a bit, but they are well made.
