I bought a Howa 1500 30-06 that came with a $150 scope for $450; it shoots 3 shot sub-moa groups at 300 yards with every bullet type I've tried so far. Here is the shot I took with it today.
Was that a special? They show about 450 w/out the scope when I go to the howa site...

Pawn shops are an excellent place to shop around for a used rifle. Stop in at as many gun shops as well and look in the used section. Most people get rid of their guns because they need the extra cash not because they have shot it out.
If you are looking for a .30 cal, you can order a muzzle wear gauge from Fulton Armory. All you have to do is to drop it into the muzzle as per instructions to determine barrel wear. I got one to check muzzle wear on prospective M1 Garands and it'll check any .308 dia. muzzle.

No, no sale. I inquired at every gun shop in about a 200 mile radius to find the best deal I could. That shop had a few different types of Howas at that price.
