Default First Range Day

Finally got a decent day off to try out my budget built woodchucker. My wife bought me the frame, I got the stock from Eabco and a Bergara barrel from Midway. The scope was a close out from Natchez. It was listed at about $250 I think on sale for $60. I wanted the 6-24 but they were sold out. I got a 8-32. At 32x, the mirage is so bad it's almost impossible to keep a decent hold. All told I am only in for less than 5 bills.

Anyhow, I put a 2x hinge pin in it from Mike Bellm. I think it's going to prefer the 50-55 grain weight range which kinda makes me mad since I have 400 rounds of 60 grain TAP. They'll be good enough for the local woodchucks and crows though... I'll have to see what it can do with some handloads.

That will kill the hell out of a woodchuck. That is if you can find a place to shoot them. Not sure about up there in the north but down here in the south them mfers are had to find. When you do they die real fast.

Yeah, they are getting harder to find up here. The coyote population is thriving though. I plan to shoot the hell outta those too.

First shots are "flyers" . . .

What caliber is this rifle?

Are you swabbing the bore between targets? Run a solvent patch, dry patches and then a "fouling shot" to bring the bore up to temp and back on target.

Looks like I'm not the only one who makes sandbags from the legs on my old jeans. *S*

Nice rig. Nothing better than sittin' in the sun, shooting far down the road off a bench.

I really like that 7-08 round. Accurate Shooting, low recoil little jewel. Well shucks, I now NEED one on a AR platform.
