What size big game are you talking about? Pronghorn or muley or even elk? As for the rifle I'd check out the Marlin X7 or the Savage Edge. Between the 2 I'd lean strongly toward the Marlin X7. A 25-06 would be perfect for pronghorn, While a .270 or better yet a 30-06 would be good for muleys or elk. That would give you more money toward a decent scope. Don't fall for the package deals as they usually put the cheapest scope they can on them.

Yeah. . . I started this thread, before I ventured past the realm of Military style rifles and into the long range game.

Since the end of this thread OVER 1 YEAR AGO!!! I have since acquired SEVERAL more rifles and a couple nice pieces of glass.

There needs to be a way to block the re-opening of dead threads, unless there is new information that would of great importance, pending repairs/servicing, etc.

Maybe you could make a project out of one of the rifles you already have, What do you have now.
