My first gun was Smith & Wesson M&P 40 but I'm about to buy my first rifle...a Remmy 700 SPS Varmint.

Both good IMHO

How old are you? Have you ever handled a rifle before? If so what have you shot and what did you like best?

I assume you're looking for a rifle, so start with a .22 long rifle from any of the major manufacturers. Ruger 10/22, Marlin 60, Smith & Wesson 15-22, Savage, etc.
