Default First 30-06 Purchase

I getting ready to buy my first hunting rifle and have decided on a 30-06. With a budget of $500-$600 and after feeling a number of guns and talking to a lot of people if am leaning towards the Tikka T3 or Weatherby S2. Anyone have a
preference? Because of its light weight is the recoil rough on the T3?

They are both excellent choices.

I am very sensitive to recoil and my featherweight .30-06 is a joy to shoot.

Chuck, it's a great cartridge. You cannot go wrong. But do you have an opportunity to try someone's .30-06, maybe especially a comparatively light one?

Like Locotus, I've never been bothered by the recoil of a .30-06. And those rifles are considered great values. Don't get me wrong; you know your shooting a rifle, but it's not an elephant gun either. Just watch out for that scope hitting your eyebrow if you are inexperienced...

I have shot a number of 308s, 30-30s & 7mm Mags. I kinda know what to expect. I don't know anyone with a T3.

I've shot the 30-06 T3 multiple times. It's really no different than others. I absolutely love the gun, and own the 300wsm. You will have no regrets with it. A limbsaver will make it nice to shoot as well.
