Congrads on owning one of the finest and diverse big game cartridges ever invented. A little history since you are interested. The cartridge wasnt originally called a 30-06. Its first name was "BALL CARTRIDGE CALIBER 30 MODEL OF 1906". When commercial gun companies started making rifles for this chambering each had a different name for it. Remington called theirs " 30 SPRINGFIELD 1906" Winchester called theirs " 30 GOV'T 1906" then later " 30 GOV'T 06" In not sure when Remington started labeling their rifles 30-06, however Winchester didnt start the 30-06 label on their guns till @ 1950. It wasnt till 1933, 27 years after its introduction, that the first cartridge headstamp actually said 30-06. Their are over 10,000 different loadings and variations of this caliber.
