My vote would go to the .308 as well. Amazing accuracy in the right actions, readily available, fairly inexpensive, all things that are important to me. .22 mag would be a close 2nd.

The .30-06 is the MOST versatile cartridge ever made, and therefore is the BEST. It will take care of just about any N. American game animal, and it worked fine during both World Wars in the '03 Springfield, the M1 Garand, and Browning 30 cal 1919 machinegun.

.375 H&H. Takes any animal in North America and Africa. Pleasant to shoot. Not expensive to feed.

i like .30-06. it can take down any animal that i would be hunting and has a lot of history. the one hunting rifle i have is in .30-06.

at the same time, the .223 and the 7.62x39 are nice little rounds too. (but maybe that's just because the guns that fire them are so fun to shoot at the range)

.22lr is a pretty good one too, given the inexpensive price and the huge variety of guns that fire it.

My favorite is the .308 cause that's what my M1As shoot, then second is .30-06 cause that's what my M1s and 03s shoot.

I like my 7mm STW.
Its flat shooting, hard hitting, accurate.
It also burns way too much powder and has pretty stout recoil without a muzzle brake.
With the brake it kicks like a 243,but the muzzle blast will wreck (unprotected) hearing, strip the paint off your truck and kill your lawn.
Even with these downsides, it never fails to put a smile on my face whenever I shoot it.

The 35 whelen I recently bought is much more sensible and is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

You just can't have one favorite caliber,unless you only shoot that one caliber rifle/rifles.

44 Magnum
45 Colt

I have rifles in all these calibers,and they are all favorites to shoot. It just depends on what I want to shoot at,and what caliber I want to shoot it with!

.270 Win. but I'm also a big fan of the old 7.62x54R Soviet round and the 8x57 Mauser, both of which predate the .30-06 with similar ballistics.

Well let's see; have 3 .270s; a ,338, 2 .308s, a 30-30; a .243 and others but everyone should have at least one 30.06; favorite, Hell I don't know

The lower the ammo costs (and the more availability), the more fun.

My calibers are .22 lr, 7.62x39, x54R and .303.
Based on the cost/availability and power to blast bricks, the x39.
