It doesn't have to be the most accurate or the least expensive or the best for any given category. What is your favorite rifle round and why?
I choose the .223 because I'm not a hunter just a target shooter, I have found it to be surprisingly accurate for factory rounds, inexpensive and has very little recoil so my shoulder doesn't care if I shoot 100 rounds in a day.
.30-06 is my favorite. It was the caliber of a borrowed rifle that I used for my first deer hunt and has held a sentimental place ever since.
If we get a second choice, it would be 45/70 Government. I had an 1895 Marlin and a Marlin 1895 SS and really enjoyed shooting them. For a somewhat shorter range round, it gets the job done with authority.

As a dyed in the wool whitetail deer hunter, my all time favorite rifle cartridge is the 7mm08. EXTREMELY accurate, very mild recoiling, easy to reload for, it performs all out of proportion of what it's modest size would appear to indicate. I've dropped deer out to 420 yards with it DRT (dead right in tracks). With the right bullets it is well up to the task for smaller or bigger game as well.

My favorite rifle round is one that goes BOOM when I pull the trigger. I like them all, really I do.
But the one that hold a special place in my hear is the 220 Swift. Still the fastest 22 cal centerfire on the market. The swift was what my first varmint rifle was chambered in. It was a nice Ruger M77 VT with a jewell trigger set to 6 oz and topped with a weaver (El Paso) v6 I think a 6-18x scope it shot like no one business if a varmint showed its face within 400 yards I could kill it.
I really don't have a favorite, but I guess it would have to be the caliber of the rifle I am shooting at any given time. I guess for the all-a-round fun factor, it would have to be the little .22 long rifle, as I have countless pistols and rifles to choose from for any given day of shooting....
