Keep in mind that they have to adhere to "Corporate Policies" that are dictated by lawers for the insurance companies. No biggie.
Should anyone press a real manager (not a Department Mgr level person) about the 3 day fed thingy, you will get the firearm. Stupid state laws notwithstanding.
To the OP, I am sure Dick's will survive without your business.

Yeah... sorry to say I work at Dick's... at the Gun counter no less. Anyway I do agree with everything you've all said. Associates product knowledge, Corporate Policy, and Customer Service all suck (unless I'm helping you of course). There are a lot of kids, short timers and wanna-be working there that don't know sh*t from shinola.
You're all correct about the 3 day rule. Fed's say they CAN release the firearm, not that they MUST. Corporate, the individual stores, and even the selling Associates all have the right to refuse to sell you a firearm if they don't want to.
Also what you don't hear on the customers end but I do when I call the NICS line is this "the Brady Law does not prohibit you from transferring this firearm on or after (date). Thing is, if they later come back with a DENY rather than a Delayed, we now have the problem of having sold a gun we have to retrieve. So Corporate/LP make the rule NO "PROCEED", NO SALE! I don't like it either.
Oh, yeah, we only have to walk you out the door (another stupid policy derived no doubt as result of some lawsuit), not to your car.

Cpt Jim- The Dick's in South Richmond VA has a young lady working the Lodge that is smart, friendly, knows her stuff, and is very helpful. Rest of the staff...... well, Mom used to say, if you can't say something nice.....

I never shop at Dick's, you can never find anyone who knows anything about anything!!
|
Oh yes you can.
I was in a Dick's buying a box of ammo. A younger guy was in there (probably early 20s) excitedly looking to buy a bolt action Savage in .270. The clerk said, "I hope you are not planning to hunt deer with a .270, it's not nearly big enough for PA whitetails."
Well the life was knocked out of this kid. He said something about his grandfather told him it would work, put the gun down on the counter and headed for the door. I caught him before he left and told him his grandfather is right, go buy the gun if you want it, and hunt deer with it for the next 40 years.
I was done shopping there (forever), so I don't know the outcome, but I am fairly certain a .270 is OK for deer.

One thing sure and two things certain, a .270 is plenty capable of taking a white tail..

it would be more fun to park three blocks away and then do the perp walk to the car...

Actually Capt Jim,
The truth is You & Your company is no longer liable for anything once you have handed a gun to a previously Delayed client once the 3 business days have elapsed. The Actual Truth is for some reason Your company is making up Their Own Rules. I don't mind if your company does that, just one of the ways that the Small Business owned gunstore can compete, we don't always feel the need to lie to our clients...

It is my understanding that the stores who dont release firearms after the three days are trying to avoid the Feds showing up at your house looking for the firearm that was sold to a "Do not proceed" check. The Feds could and probably would then remove any firearm found on the property. I personally dont want them in my house looking though stuff.

It ain't MY company (wish I had some of their money though). And you're right, they do just make up their own rules. That's the nature of Big Business in America today... it's all about money. No customer care. Whenever I have someone who is delayed and the store won't give them the gun after 3 days I simply tell them to go to a "Real" Gun shop that will.

Yeah, there are a few of us in the Dick's company that really do care... not many though.

I just want to say thanks for your candor CaptJim. It takes a set to enter a thread that's bashing your employer and and call a spade a spade!
Kudos.
I don't think there's a Dick's here in South Florida. I'm not asking where you work but I hope, should I find myself in one, I have a clerk with your honesty.
