I have a winchester model 70 standerd model in a 270 caliber. Every time I shoot it there is a dent in the shoulder of the brass. It doesn't matter factory or reloads. any suggestions?

You have something in your chamber. You need to clean it and if you can have it looked at by a bore scope.

I doubt it would be something in the chamber as it would be difficult to chamber the round. I assume it is a case that has been fired that is dented when extracted? If so watch carefully as you slowly extract the case and see what is denting the case. Let us know please.

A grain of powder can cause a dent in the shoulder a small fragment of metal could be in the chamber causeing the dent in the case. This would also not cause any difficulty chambering a round.

It sounds to me like the case is hitting something (receiver ring) when it's ejected. Try slowly extracting/ejecting the case to see where it's hitting. If that's the case you can have the ejector/extractor adjusted.

Scrub the chamber good- I have used a .410 bore brush with some solvent, chucked into a drill (spin brush for about 30 seconds, then clean oversized patches, then check using new ammo, carefully extracting. and see what you have.

I have dented brass when reloading because of excessive lube on a casing. Brass is soft- the steel of the chamber is hard.

I would agree on ejection if the dents WERE IN THE NECK. These are in the SHOULDER area and if it were ejection that hard the neck would also be mashed good.

Seeing as the OP states it is on the shoulder I am sticking to my answer of something is in the chamber in that area.
