I have some younger cousin's and buddy's kids that are shooting 243's. In my opinion, if all you are shooting is whitetails and not shooting any further than 250yds, the 243 is the perfect gun for young or old. My favorite whitetail gun is probably a 270, works well for if you are going to shoot some muleys or other game at longer yardages.

She's 15 and fairly decent size. She held my .308 up but it was a little heavy for her and could have been an inch or two shorter. And I would say the distance would be 200 yards and under and I'd probably hold her to that range but I knocked a doe down this year at 350 and that wasn't across an entire field so the range might be a little longer

My 16 yr old daughter is shootin a 7mm ultra mag had the stock fitted, an kick ease recoil pad, one of the best pads I have ever used, an it has a jp quiet break on it now, recoil is very tame, she can put around 60 shots throught it no prob, it isnt a cheap gun by no means its a weatherby mark 5 accumark, but I wanted her to have a rifle that will be easy on the shoulder but be able to take any north american game animal

You may want to look at the Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 Synthetic Youth which has a 20" barrel and stock adjustable for length of pull. You can get it in 243 or 7MM-08, two rounds that are great for deer and easy on the shoulder.

My uncle killed a nice 4x3 bull and a cow last year with his 700 sps 7mm 08. He used heavier bullets and limited his shots to 200 yards or less so when or if she decides to go for bigger game that would be a good caliber. He has hunted deer and probghorn w it for the last few years also. It has almost recoil and has alit of punch for deer sized animals. IMHO the x7y in 7mm-08 would probably be your best bet.

My vote is the xl7 in 270, ammo is cheaper an can be found in nearly every kind of sportin shop, recoil is very light, the 7mm-08 is a good round but hard to come by in most places. So the xl7 in 270 is a good solid rifle mine shoots sun moa all day with handloads an plus it will shoot the cheap federal in moa groups all day any day

I agree w that especially after watching my 120ish lb fiancee shoot mine last week. The only thing being its length. Since i have long arms almost all rifles fit me but most women/kids dont. The next rifle i buy will buy the x7y in 7mm 08 for my fiancee.

Oh im the same now except my two are a 7mm custom and my x7l 270. There is a few minor details that fueled that decision though including length. Things like the bolt throw is a bit long for her on my 270 and its a little to heavy for her. She killed three this year which was her first year to get one out of two years hunting. The first w my marlin the second w my uncles above mentioned sps 7mm 08 and the third w my t/c contender 243. She said the 270 and 7mm 08 felt more ethical to her for deer. So im getting her the 08 for xmas. Plus she loves the way the x7 series shoots, handles, and feels to her.

The marlin x7 series are hands down to good to pass up, I now have 4, besides that the lil 08 is great for any big game, within real world distance.
