A 22 WMR is fairly economical to shoot. The 22 mag has more range than people give it credit. Any idiot can sit there on a sandbag with a 7mm and hit a target 300 yards away. The 22 WMR can hit a target 300 yards away but it is challenge.

The reason I went 30-06 was because of versatility ( it can take any game in US) as well as availability of ammo. I shoot a Remington 700 w Nikon Buckmaster optics. Solid platform IMHO
two come to mind that would be excellent considerations for you. the 25-06 and the 7mm-08. both are flat shooting, make excellent mid-range target rounds and could be used for hunting as well. i warn you on the 7mm-08, that once you own one and start shooting it, it will be addictive! my 7mm-08 is one of my most shot rifles that i own.

I've heard that about 7mm. Wasn't that the first ever chambering when the 700 was introduced?
