So this is my first time attempting to get a custom build and would like some honest opinions on it.so here it is
Trigger:Jewell
Action:Surgeon 591/R .308
Stock:Either Roedale RCS II or AICS 1.5
Barrel:no specific barrel just going with a normal blued rem 700
so what do you think about it?

Your really going to spend big bucks the $1400 action and stock and then put a run of the mill production remmy barrel on it?? Really. Might as well just buy a complete remmy tactical target and shoot it. It will still only shoot as well as a factory barrel will allow.

Agreed... I would buy two remmies for the cost of that action if you aren't upgrading the barrel in some way...

well i wanted to go with a normal rem barrel cos with this set up i'd have totally depleted my funds so getting a better barrel would be out of the question.Prehaps i should save up and pick up a better barrel or something.so what would be a good barrel?

Your money,do with it as you wish. What kind of shooting are you looking to do. Match?? And what kind of accuracy at distance, say 500 yards. Don't expect many people to understand going thru the cost of a Surgeon Repeater action even with a good barrel that will be very hard to justify it when used in a tactical roll in a folding stock under any condition. In a Hunter class stock and match, maybe. It is not better than a well tuned remington action for your needs. Just cost more. You could buy a beater remmy barreled action send it to krieger to fit a top flight barrel and drop in into your tacticool stock and have enought money left over for all the reloading equipment you will need or want.

This might be something for you to look at. Cheaper also than what your looking to put together.

Well, I can understand you running out of money on your build, considering the parts you'll use. As to a barrel for it, perhaps you might want to consider a F54 contour A&B barrel from Midway. Price for a chromemoly one should be under $100. I've had decent success with A&B on about 5 rifles and know 3 gents who do gunsmithing that have a good opinion of them.
