My marlin likes the truncated cone profile and will not do much with a true semi wadcutter. I assume the Rossi is will have similar results since it is essentially the same action.

The Kel Tec is looking promising since I have a .40 cal Glock. Can use the same mags. Still looking at the others. My wife wants me to find a rifle so we all can target shoot in evenings on our hike plus she's kind of scared of the bears. Not that I'm planning on shooting any bears with it. Might bang some pots and pans around to scare one off. I'm not wanting to carry two guns because I will already be loaded down on this hike. Still looking at some of the others listed.

Watch a rerun of dead or alive, or an old John Wayne movie. Then go get a mares leg rifle, (re a pistol)

I have one, and they are a hoot to shoot.

Short barrel, short stock, no tax stamp needed.

Batf let something slide past, and I am sure glad. Love mine. They come in about every caliber made.

Reread some of
The posts
No gun for
Bears like a
Glock 20
Bear country
You want something
Quick on the hip
With stopping
Power
Get a concealed
Carry permit,
And put a handkerchief
Over gun in walks
Through small towns
Keeps your business
Your business
Keeps you in good
Graces with the law
Rifle in a backpack
Does no good
For a surprised
Mother bear

The Mares Leg replicas are handguns in full compliance with the ATF. I trust you they are fun to shoot. For any self defense, which is business not pleasure, a semiauto or a DA revolver is a better choice. The John Wayne and Steve McQueen characters would have chosen a semiauto carbine or pistol if they were doing it today.

C'mon, you might like it; never know until you try it.

Not a pistol caliber.

See if you can find a used ruger .44 carbine. Figure on $5-600 being on the cheap side.

It's not really a backpacking gun.
Don't get me wrong, as far as power to size, the Ruger .44 mag carbine is BEAST!
I love the hell outta mine!
