Default Chinese 53

What do you guys think about a Chinese 53 carbine for $150 plus tax? Would be my first mosin if I get it and don't know a lot about them. Haven't looked at it yet but planning on doing so this afternoon.

A great little beater-shooter-truck gun.

Make sure the rifling is still there.

If you don't have outrageous expectations,

you will probably be pleased with it.

The good ammo is much more accurate.

Basically it's a Mosin M44 which was manufactured

by the Chinese. AFAIK, there are still clean, like new

M44s available from Eastern Bloc countries, if you want

a better one. They also range from 275$ to 400$, depending

on condition.

That being said if I could get one for $100 I would get one for a camping gun.

If everything looks good I was thinking about seeing if he would sell the gun and a spam can for 175 or so

Well guys, I went and did it. He wouldn't come down on price but I still ended up buying it. The wood is in pretty good shape, looked down the barrel and seemed to be good through all the grease, brought it home and spent 2 hours cleaning and it was even better than I thought. The action is smooth as butter. I figured if nothing else it'll be an experience and lesson learned if it's not worth 150. All numbers matching except for the butt plate

For about 10 $, you can get a recoil pad.

It serves two purposes. Lengthens the LOP, and

softens the recoil. So you will be replacing the

butt plate with a recoil pad, anyway.

And now all your serials match...
