My apologies for this being my first post.....but I need help.

Can you help me identify this weapon?
all that is marked in .300 sav and a few numbers.
The rifle was given to me by my father.
He was a novice collector and recently sold most everything to Cabela's.
I've had this one for 25 years and want to trade or sell, so I just need to know what it even really is.

Some closer pics of the action ,both sides, will reveil much. It appears to be a 98 mauser built by some gunsmith into the gun it is today. It definately doesnt look like a factory built rifle. For us mauser fans this was a common conversion. The value isnt that much as there were
MANY millions of these made. Value can be increased by the maker of the action.

.300 Savage is a great round.

Yours appears to be on a military Mauser 98 action of some kind. Most of the commercial Mausers had a thumb safety instead of the military lever. Can you post some clearer pics of the other side of the receiver?

How does the bbl look?

For the pittance you will get if you sell it, just hold onto it.

I'm heavy on Mauser hunting rifles, or would probably buy it from you. I like Mausers.

Don't know about you being a "rifle guy", but I can tell you're not a photographer! Haha.

It is a small ring Mauser, but I'm still not 100% on the origin. Tell us about the markings. Language, etc.

Why would your safe be full of scatter guns? Can't even scatter rats with them in your safe...do you scatter much?
