I guess we could have been more specific. The receiver will have to go through an FFL if the barrel is attached or not.

If you want to barrel your own action, the Savage system is a bit more home smith friendly.

i happen to agree with Doc on this. the Savage rifles are much easier to gunsmith at home and don't require near the same amount of specialized tools to build one.

might PM Txhillbilly as he puts together a few of the Savages and just got finished with one recently. he's pretty knowledgeable on putting one together.

Thanks for the info guys but I just saw an ad on armslist for a savage 110 in .270 for 450 which correct me if I'm wrong but that sounds like a good deal. The glass doesn't look like anything special but he did say he has a bunch of ammo for it. I think 100 rounds? Here's a pic:

IMO, that's not exactly the deal of the century, but still seems reasonable if the rifle is in decent shape.

Not a bad deal. It looks like one of their package guns. Possibly pre-accutrigger. If that is the case, they used to sell for around $300-350 back in the day, about 10 years ago. The stock and triggers then were not much to write home about, but they still had great accuracy potential, and that trigger can be adjusted pretty easily. I could coax ragged 5 shot holes out of my father-in-laws 110 in .30-06.

and another thing is, if it's a pre-Accutrigger model, they have aftermarket trigger assemblies for that rifle.

all in all, the Savage 110 is a very good rifle and has very good accuracy. they may not be as pretty as a Remington, a Ruger or a Winchester, but they are one solid, well made and proven rifle.

and you could always dress it up with a Boyd's laminated stock like this one if you want to pretty it up some!

That is a terrible deal for a used gun that may have the crown nicked, or the barrel shot out???

Heres something I would consider a better deal if you are in the western united states:

I asked him that today and he said the bore is good as is the crown. He said that he wanted to get rid of it because he has an autoloader in .270 and this one was taking up space in his safe.

What area do you live in, if I may ask? Have you tried looking on GunGenie to see if there are other FFL dealers in your area?

In the areas where I habitat, there are lots of neighbor FFL dealers who sell in their homes, besides the gun stores a plenty.

I live in southern New York, westchester to be specific. There is one guy who will do transfers out of his house and he charges 40 dollars. What I really have a lack of is a good source for used guns. The next nearest place that I'm aware of is 45 mins away and they gouged .22 ammo during the "scare" so I don't want to go back there unless I have to.
