rough ball park figure? $300-500 maybe depending on the barrel, the barrel material and the action. plus other options ould be extra like blueing or fluting and such.

contact one of the barrel makers and or check out their websites. many times, most of them post their prices to give you a general idea of what it will cost.

that's a lot of rounds for sure! i use the IMR4198 for my 204 Ruger and my 7mm Rem. Mag. loads. the IMR4198 is a sweet powder for magnum rifle calibers. i also get very good accuracy out it as well.

was out in the desert the other week, firing from various positions (prone, kneeling, standing, walking, left handed, right handed) at 200, prone out to 400 yards. 400 is too easy with surplus ammo.

You'll probably need more than that if you want to really shoot out a barrel.

Nope! Mossberg MVP, 5.56, not .308. (dont think the .308 version is released yet?). Topped with an SWFA SS 3-9x42. It's a great shooter, i regularly push it out to 600 yards, but with our desert winds that gets somewhat difficult.

I have wanted a Ruger scout rifle for some time, but decided to go .223/5.56 rather than .308. Plus, for .308 my M1A is good out to 1000, so, i'm covered there!

Mossberg make a good bolt action rifle. th action is solid and the accuracy is pretty good. i owned a Mossberg ATR100 in 30-06 with the synthetic stock and that rifle was amazingly accurate with my handloads, but would punish your shoulder something fierce! that rifle had to have been the hardest recoiling 30-06 i have ever owned. my current Remington M700 in 30-06 using the same loads is a *****cat in comparison!
